Our church promoted Christian Education students last night. Several of my students are moving up to the next level—traveling forward. Excitement sparked their conversations. It’s time to join the youth group!
After a brief ceremony in the main sanctuary, we met in our classroom for final reviews and goodbyes. Tears threatened to spill from my eyes. I will miss meeting with these kids each week.
Each student received a letter with a personal message. We were able to know their heart-felt needs because of the surveys and activities completed during our lessons. Several of the children have distinct talents. I encouraged each one to use their unique abilities to help others.
Above all, I wrote, keep Jesus first in your life. Follow the plan of salvation in Acts 2:38. Think about our lessons:
- Daniel’s courage
- Moses’ obedience
- Ezra’s love for the Word of God
- Jesus, at 12 years old, honoring His parents
- David’s example of self-control when he could have killed King Saul
In a few of the letters, I added key scriptures that applied to the child’s life situation.
Looking back over the past few weeks, I feel rewarded. Connections with this group exceeded the relationships I have felt with previous class groups. Other teachers help each week. They are connecting, too. I’m grateful we instilled values that will anchor the hearts of these preteens during the years ahead.
